Huntersville, North Carolina can trace its roots to the antebellum cotton plantations of early North Carolina. Officially incorporated in 1873, the town grew quickly with the help of the nearby rail line. The Virgin Manufacturing Company, a textile mill, encouraged community growth and with the creation of Lake Norman in 1963, Huntersville became the thriving community it is today. The community is proud of the Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics center, a beautiful facility with a 50-meter competition swimming pool and diving well. It has allowed Huntersville to host world class diving competitions for the enjoyment of the residents and provides health and fitness opportunities such as a warm water pool, fitness center, gym, exercise studio and even a splash park for the smaller children.

Lake facilities include Blythe Landing Park for boat launching and other water recreation. The Latta Plantation includes more than 1200 acres of nature preserves, hiking trails, and horseback riding through many historic sites. Rural Hill Farm annually hosts the Lock Norman Highland Games, the Amazing Maize Maze and sheep dog trials. Local golf clubs include Birkdale Golf Club, Skybrook Golf Club and Northstone County Club.


Huntersville is an affluent community with a median household income of $81,376. Half of the population of Huntersville commutes to Charlotte for work; 75 percent in professional positions and 25 percent in labor. Most homes, about 74 percent, are owner occupied with 70 percent of the population married. Families with children occupy 41 percent of the homes in Huntersville, and the median age of Huntersville real estate is six years.

Schools, Health and Transportation

Huntersville real estate lies within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District and is fortunate to have had a number of schools named to the top-rated list in the state, those being: Huntersville Elementary School, Lake Norman Charter School, Torrence Creek Elementary School, Barnette Elementary School and Francis Bradley Middle School. There are 18 pre-schools in the area, 12 elementary, 5 middle schools and 4 high schools. Overall the community received a seven out of ten rating by the Great Schools rating system.

Huntersville Medical Center at 10030 Gilead Road serves the areas medical needs including surgery, maternity care, cardiovascular treatments and cancer care. It is a division of Novant Health. Lake Norman Regional Medical Center offers 24-hour emergency care in its 123-bed facility in Mooresville. Lake Norman Urgent Care of Piedmont Healthcare is located in Mooresville at 1255 Days Inn Drive when immediate treatment is required.

The Capital Area Transit System, or CATS, in Charlotte provides public transportation to commuters from Huntersville with an express route running weekdays. The pickup point is Gateway Park and Ride and termination point is Charlotte Transportation Center. As for major airports, the distance from the center of Huntersville to Charlotte Douglas International Airport is 20 miles. Privately owned Bradford Field is located in Huntersville. Other local airports include Concord Regional in Cabarrus and Lincoln County in Lincolnton. Amtrak stations are located in Kannapolis and Charlotte. The driving distance from Huntersville to Charlotte is 14 miles via the I-77 South.
